"Wave-Gotik-Treffen"

Every year at Whitsun, the WGT – the largest gothic festival in the world – is held in Leipzig.

During the four days of the festival, from 13 – 16 May, some 20,000 visitors join concerts, parties, opera performances, exhibitions, medieval markets and readings.

All of Leipzig turns into a black colourful catwalk – to the delight of both residents and tourists. Watch out for the special anniversary programme.

Ring Cycle &
Wagner Festival

For the first time in 40 years, the Leipzig Opera will stage a complete Ring in the city of Wagner’s birth from 5-8 May and on 28/29 June + 1/3 July.

The Wagner Festival from 19-26 May 2016 focuses on the composer’s three early works "The Fairies", "The Ban on Love" and "Rienzi". The three works that build bridges from the Great Romantic Opera to the Great Comic Opera to Grand Opera are performed as a cycle at Leipzig Opera.

Max Reger Festival
Leipzig 2016

In honour of the 100th anniversary of the death of Max Reger, the city of Leipzig hosts a Max Reger Festival from 8 - 20 May as well as numerous events all year round.

The festival offers organ concerts on the “Reger organ” in St. Thomas Church, symphony concerts and chamber music nights with the Gewandhaus orchestra and St. Thomas Boys Choir.

The new G2 Art Space opposite St. Thomas Church presents over 50 artworks from the Hildebrand Collection.

The private non-profit institution is supporting contemporary visual art, emerging as well as renowned artists from the so-called New Leipzig School are on display, including Tilo Baumgärtel, Neo Rauch, David Schnell and Matthias Weischer.
