Leipzig Festival of Lights

Festival of Lights; photo: LTM-Brzoska
Every year, the Leipzig Festival of Lights commemorates the famous Monday demonstration of October 9, 1989 with art, video and light installations by international artists. After dealing with the pursuit of liberty and democracy in the GDR and other Eastern European countries, civil society is the overriding topic of this year's edition. The focus is on people as their own entities – on the individual. Throughout the evening, visitors are invited to form an illuminated "89" with thousands of candles.

Kunstkraftwerk Lepzig

An old power plant in Plagwitz is currently being converted to an experimental factory for art, illusion, culture, design, communication, and happenings. For its opening on 18 June, the Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig is bringing the international exhibition “ILLUSION: NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS” by the Science Gallery Dublin to Leipzig. Until 27 November 2016, some 20 exhibits offer an insight into the human mind by exploring the motivations and mechanisms of sensory deception.
