UT Connewitz

Short facts

During the GDR era, this cinema, one of the oldest in Germany, became a popular meeting place for the entertainment scene.

The charm of the past still lingers in one of the country's oldest cinemas. The UT Connewitz is a venue with the unique charm of Leipzig. Located in the southern part of the city, UT blends in with the rough and edgy style of the Connewitz district. This is no longer just a place for movies but also for concerts, readings, festivals and other events.

UT is a popular and sought-after venue for visitors to the scene, culture lovers and music fans, and yet it has not succumbed to the pressure of progress but has purposely retained the ambiance of the 100-year-old cinema. Following UT's heyday in the GDR as a cinema and concert venue for East Germany's punk scene, the curtains were temporarily drawn after reunification. In 2001, a group of motivated culture lovers set out to breathe new life into UT.
