If you’re cooking for yourself while staying in Leipzig, or need to pick up some vegan supplies, there are some wonderful vegan shops in the city.

Biomare is one of our favourites in the Leipzig region, and it’s found in three locations across the city. Biomare has large supermarkets which have a range of vegan, organic and fair-trade products. There’s a particularly impressive range of seasonal fruits and vegetables from local organic farmers. The many vegan products to be found in Biomare include soy milk, spreads for bread and even a vegan chocolate ice cream. Vegan products are clearly labelled, making shopping super-easy here.

Vegan Leben is a small mini-market in Südvorstadt that has all the vegan heart desires. Stocking only plant-based products, find everything from tofu, spreads, sausage and cheese alternatives, meat substitutes and vegan chocolate, to cosmetics and pet food.
Open: Monday to Friday, 11:00 to 19:00; Saturday, 11:00 to 16:00

To keep you going in between meals, Leipzig is brimming with local spots to find vegan-friendly snacks.

Vleischerei is a kebab shop with a difference – serving only tofu and seitan kebabs, as well as vegan gyros and hamburgers.
Open: Monday to Thursday, 11.30 to 23:00; Friday and Saturday, 11.30 to 00:00; Sunday, 13:30 to 23:00

Atacolypse is a vegan food truck with a Mexican twist – find vegan tacos, burritos and a range of other Tex-Mex dishes here. Viva Leipzig!

Le Cygne is a café specialising in vegan goodies. You can equally check it out in the morning for its infamous vegan breakfast, or visit late at night for a drink or to pick up some soy milk if you’re run out.

Lazy Dog is a late-night vegan hot dog spot, not too far from Le Cygne.

Shahia is a low-key vegan eatery with a massive range of vegan snacks, ranging from vegan pizzas and nuggets, to kebabs and cordon bleu. The portions are huge too.

dein deli is found in the vegan mecca of Connewitz, with everything from vegan burgers and sandwiches, to soups and cakes.
Open: Tuesday to Sunday, 11: to 22:00

Bavarian Dürüm is an eclectic mixture of Bavaria and the Orient, serving vegan goulash, red cabbage and dumplings, as well as vegetarian gyros and steak baguettes.

Curry Sud: Burger am Kreuz may sound like a meat-eating place, but it’s a spot with vegan burgers of every variety, from New York style to spicy with jalapeño peppers. If burgers aren’t your thing, they also serve a vegan version of currywurst, which comes with chips or bread.

NIX TONNE is an original bread and spread spot. Vegan breads are served with homemade vegan spreads, ranging from hummus and Indian bean curd to Mediterranean tomato, olive and rosemary spread. Sweet treats come in the form of vegan cookies, brownies, muffins and cakes.

The Leipzig region is well-known as being brilliant for vegan foods of all styles, and this cranks up a gear when it comes to lunch and dinner in restaurants.

Zest is an award-winning vegan restaurant loved by vegans and non-vegans alike, with amazingly indulgent five-course menus that change every two months.

Symbiose is Leipzig’s only organic vegan restaurant, with a seasonally changing menu based on the produce of regional farms. Sundays are popular for the vegan brunch.

vVasabi is a vegan sushi restaurant, demonstrating the true breadth of Leipzig’s vegan scene. This high-end spot serves rolls with tofu instead of fish. Instead of soy sauce, a variety of exotic homemade dips are served.

Green Soul in the east of the city has a wide variety of vegan Asian, Mediterranean and German dishes. Try everything from vegan goulash with spaetzle and green curry, to burgers and spaghetti bolognese. There are child-friendly vegan treats too.

Being vegan doesn’t mean denying yourself in Leipzig. Here’s a range of vegan spots to sate that sweet tooth.

Minastique is a family-run shop with a passion for cakes and desserts, where you can find everything from vegan cupcakes to lactose-free ice cream.

Marshalls Mum describes itself as a café and cupcakery in Leipzig. It’s a place to find amazing vegan cheesecake and homemade ice cream, ranging from peach and mango to strawberry and cucumber lime.

TONIS is a Leipziger favourite specialising in organic vegan ice creams, which also have no colourings, artificial flavours or flavour enhancers.

Konditorei & Café Krüsmann serves everything from vegan cookies and cakes to pies, served by talented pastry chef Mario Krüsmann.
