Leipzig Christmas market

Its tradition dates back to 1458. The approximately 300 stalls invite visitors to linger in five market areas. The range of goods is accompanied by concerts by the St. Thomas Boys Choir, performances by the tower musicians on the balcony of the Old Town Hall, Santa Claus's office hours and a festive program of activities.

Leipzig Book Fair

The Leipzig Book Fair and the largest European reading festival "Leipzig Reads" are the spring event for the book and media industry. Fans of comics, manga, etc. can visit the Manga Comic Convention at the same time. The Leipzig Antiquarian Book Fair is also taking place at the same time. At the last event, over 2.000 exhibitors from over 40 countries presented the spring novelties and delighted 274.000 visitors at the exhibition center and throughout the city. Norway will be the partner country in 2025.

Shostakovich Festival 2025

In May 2025, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig will be dedicated to Dmitri Shostakovich and will honor him with an extensive retrospective. Under the direction of Andris Nelsons and Anna Rakitina, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a specially founded festival orchestra will perform all of Shostakovich's symphonies and solo concertos. World-class artists such as Daniil Trifonov and Baiba Skride will be performing the chamber music series. Two performances of the opera "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" as well as song recitals, night music, film screenings and lectures will round off the festival. The Gewandhaus Orchestra has had Shostakovich in its repertoire since 1929 and has played numerous German premieres.

a cappella – International Festival for Vocal Music

Since 1997, "a cappella" has turned the city into the sound center of the vocal music scene every year. For more than a week, there are concerts with vocal groups from all corners of the a cappella world. Whether it's a genre big name, an insider tip or a young ensemble - everything that is possible with the human voice gets a stage at "a cappella". Because the festival, led by the Leipzig vocal ensemble amarcord, is just like its music: lively, exciting, diverse and with a lot of heart.

International German Gymnastics Festival Leipzig 2025

The Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT) has fascinated thousands of fans of the "Gothic scene" from all over the world since 1992. Bach Festival Leipzig

With the Bach Festival, the city of Leipzig honors its important Thomaskantor Johann Sebastian Bach every June. In doing so, it follows a tradition of Bach preservation that was already started by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. At the Bach Festival 2025, which takes place under the motto "Transformation", the measures for climate neutrality will be further intensified in many areas of the festival organization, including with the new price category "Climate Ticket".

Summer temperatures, a large park and good music. These are the ingredients for a successful open-air concert. The Gewandhaus Orchestra invites everyone to a free concert in Leipzig's Rosental at the end of the season. Visitors can listen to the Gewandhaus Orchestra under the open sky for two consecutive days while enjoying a relaxed picnic. This year the focus will be on Strauss.
