The Leipzig Book Fair and the largest European reading festival “Leipzig liest” are the spring event for the book and media industry. Fans of comics, manga, etc. can visit the Manga Comic-Con at the same time.

On the occasion of the 225th birthday and 175th anniversary of Albert Lortzing's death, the LORTZING 26 festival is taking place in Leipzig. In addition to Lortzing's well-known operas, lesser-known works by the former Leipzig resident are also presented, making it possible to approach Lortzing's life and work from other perspectives.

Once completed, the city harbor will become the heart of the tourist waterway network. The 4.000 square meter harbor basin will offer berths for passenger ships, sports boats, and family boats, as well as landing stages for paddleboats. In addition to buildings for boat storage and rentals, there will be a service building with restaurants, which, in this maritime setting, will also serve as an exclusive event venue.

Since 1997, "a cappella" has turned the city into the sound center of the vocal music scene every year. For more than a week, there are concerts with vocal groups from all corners of the a cappella world. Whether it's a genre big name, an insider tip or a young ensemble - everything that is possible with the human voice gets a stage at "a cappella". Because the festival, led by the Leipzig vocal ensemble amarcord, is just like its music: lively, exciting, diverse and with a lot of heart.

The Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT) has fascinated thousands of fans of the "Gothic scene" from all over the world since 1992. During the four days of the festival, visitors are offered concerts as well as a wide range of parties, performances, exhibitions and medieval markets. A highlight of the WGT is the Victorian picnic in Clara Zetkin Park.

With the Bach Festival, the city of Leipzig honors the important St. Thomas Cantor, Johann Sebastian Bach, every June. In doing so, it continues a tradition of Bach's cultivation that was already established by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Renowned performers from around the world can be experienced in over 100 events over ten days, including the THOMANERCHOR LEIPZIG (St. Thomas Choir of Leipzig) and the GewandhausorchesterIn 2026, the Leipzig Bach Festival's motto will be "In Dialogue" – inspired by the unique polyphony of Bach's music. Over eleven festive days, visitors will experience a musical exchange of the highest caliber – between artists, works, eras, and, of course, with the audience.

The wine festival will once again invite visitors to sample and linger at the market in 2025. Winemakers from various wine-growing regions of Germany, as well as from Austria, Hungary, and Italy, will offer their wines and sparkling wines. A stage program with music and entertainment, along with food and drink, will be provided.

Summer temperatures, a large park, and good music. These are the ingredients for a successful open-air concert. Gewandhausorchester invites everyone to a free concert at the end of the season in Leipzig Rosental. The 6th season of CON SPIRITO will take place from September 12 to 20, 2026, under the title “Tacheles – Jewish Tunes of the Leipzig Romantics.”

As part of the chamber music series, concerts will take place in the historic homes and places of work of those composers who had a decisive influence on Leipzig's musical tradition. These include Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Johann Sebastian Bach, Edvard Grieg, Richard Wagner, and Clara and Robert Schumann.

With the peace prayer, the speech on democracy, the Leipzig Festival of Lights and other events, the first large Monday demonstration in Leipzig is commemorated every year on October 9th, which is considered the beginning of the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR.

DOK Leipzig is one of the leading international festivals for artistic documentary and animated film. Given its tradition as a "window to the world", it attracts thousands of visitors as well as filmmakers, producers, distributors and festival organizers to the Saxon metropolis every year.

Hardly any other composer is as alive in Leipzig's contemporary culture as Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: As Gewandhaus Kapellmeister, he shaped the repertoire and the sound of the orchestra. The festival takes place every year on the anniversary of his death on November 4th and offers symphony concerts, chamber music and discussion formats.

The festival shows around 12 dance and theater pieces from and about Europe and its global connections. The focus of the program is on current theater and innovative dance as well as the latest performative forms of representation that are intended to challenge on a content and formal level. The main focus is on in-house and co-productions as well as German premieres and world premieres.
