Christmas time is here: the most beautiful Advent markets in Leipzig and its surrounding region

The classic Leipzig Christmas Market

What is it that makes the Leipzig Christmas Market so special? Leipzig has many Christmas markets, but this one is the classic and the centre of the action at Christmas thanks to its location in the centre of town. Treat your taste buds to a range of specially created hot drinks in the Tirolean village at Augustusplatz. Why not follow that up with freshly smoked salmon and tasty mulled wine at the Finnish village right next door? Here, you can close in on the origin of Santa Claus and experience Finnish Christmas traditions first-hand. And all you have to do is hop over to the other side of the square to discover the magical fairytale world that awaits outside the Leipzig Opera. Can you match the huge images to the right fairytales?

History comes to life a bit further downtown, not least thanks to the Historic Leipzig Christmas Market at Naschmarkt Square. Drop by to gain fascinating insights into the art of traditional craftsmanship.

Leipzig Market Square is where Christmas magic takes centre stage. Keep your eyes peeled for the beautiful Christmas tree. It watches over the hustle and bustle of the cosy Christmas market with its countless huts, where you can take some time to sample the various delights on offer. One of the highlights is the chance to meet Santa Claus, who visits regularly. Get ready for amazing adventures for all the family!

When? 28 November to 23 December 2023, 10 am until 9 pm, Friday and Saturday until 10 pm, 23 December from 10 am until 8 pm (the stands at Market Square are the only ones open on the last day!).

Vegan Christmas Market – a celebration of love

This year, the Vegan Christmas Market in Leipzig is taking place on the grounds of the Philippus Church, located between Plagwitz and Lindenau, right along the Karl Heine Canal. For one whole weekend, Christmas will once again be all about sustainability. The Christmas traditions and culinary creations aren't going anywhere, but innovations have enabled the market to continue to pay special attention to animal welfare. The stands do not sell animal products and therefore do not support any form of animal exploitation.

The small supporting programme featuring many fantastic vegan exhibitors underlines the importance of reflection at this time of year, resulting in a market that is both thought-provoking and packed full with delicious delights. But why not see for yourself?

When? 9 and 10 December 2023, Saturday: 12 pm until 8 pm, Sunday: 12 pm until 6 pm
Where? Philippus Church, Aurelienstraße 54, 04177 Leipzig
