Tour of the spinning mill - industrial culture in Leipzig

Leipzig is young, Leipzig is booming! As one of the hippest and trendiest cities in Germany, Leipzig is constantly attracting creative minds and young artists. This is reflected not least in the city's **flourishing and constantly growing art scene**. In addition to the classic exhibitions and museums, there are above all small and special galleries with that certain Leipzig charm. Empty industrial buildings are converted into studios and abandoned places are given a new lease of life.<br

Gallery EIGEN+ART

We have already introduced you to the on one or two occasions. This is also the location of in Hall 5 D, which aims to swim **against the current**. The history of the gallery began in 1983, when Gerd Harry Lybke began exhibiting the art of his friends in his apartment on Körnerplatz. Until 1989, the gallery was run as an illegal enterprise, but over time it established itself as a **center of young, non-conformist art.** In the same year, the plan to take temporary exhibitions to the art capitals of the world was also born. This was followed by exhibitions in **Tokyo, Paris, New York and London.** From 2005, the gallery continued on the Spinnerei site. Today, modern art can be seen here, expressed in photographs, film/video, installations and paintings. It's worth taking a look at the premises!

Quartier 5 - Studio & Gallery

Atelier Quartier 5 (Q5) has been located at Karl-Heine-Straße 85-93 in the Westwerk since the end of 2024 - a studio community of five artists. Among others, the versatile and experienced artist Michael exhibits his works here.

In his dynamic works using acrylic, oil and aerosol paints, he combines traditional techniques with modern ideas and addresses current social issues. His trademark is the matchstick, which appears in many of his surreal compositions. With intense color and symbolic depth, his art invites reflection and the discovery of new perspectives - making him an important voice in the art scene.

Gallery KUB

The is located in Leipzig's Südvorstadt district and was opened in 2004 by arpta e.V. with the exhibition "nullpunkt". It primarily exhibits **young contemporary art**, which is characterized by an intermedia presentation. The mix between the many different forms of design is therefore particularly exciting - for example, painterly, graphic and sculptural forms are combined with textual, visual and acoustic elements. This results in **experimental and multidimensional complexes** that combine classic media with new media.

By the way: the gallery also has **a café and a bar**. Perfect for philosophizing about the exhibition with friends after your visit or enjoying a cocktail with the artists in the evening.

Leipzig's street art - a huge gallery

Not only in galleries, but also on the **streets of Leipzig** there is art as far as the eye can see. Especially in the western **industrial district of Plagwitz**, **street art artists** regularly let off steam. One particular eye-catcher is an old Persil advertisement from the 1920s, which is located directly on the **Karl-Heine Canal**. The famous also attracts onlookers and, of course, artists. Art can actually be created here in a legal way.

There is also plenty of street art to discover in other parts of the city - such as **Leipzig Südvorstadt**. The **"Madonna with child"** by French artist Blek Le Rat has a beautiful story behind it. In 1991, the "Godfather of Street Stencil" sprayed this declaration of love to his future wife Sybille on the wall at Karl-Liebknecht Straße 7. Since 2012, the artwork has even been protected by a pane of glass.

But **East Leipzig** also has a lot to offer in terms of street art: The and the shine in the Neuschönefeld district with a **colorful façade**.
