Regina-Palast, movie theater

A grey rainy day, a romantic evening for two or the latest Tarantino: there's always a reason to go to the movies. We present five **special** **cinemas** in **Leipzig** that exude their very own charm.

Schauburg

**"The most comfortable cinema seats in Leipzig"** can be found in the in the south-western district of **Kleinzschocher**. It's not just the interior design that harks back to the days of the first movie theaters. The building **am Adler**, built in 1928 for the Rudolf-Filmverleih, was designed by architect Hermann Mäding in the **Art Déco** style. There is space for three auditoriums and 435 seats. In addition to sophisticated films and current movies, there is a family cinema on weekend afternoons with children's films and "The Monday Original" at the start of the week. The films are then shown in the original language with or without subtitles.

The Schauburg strives for the motto "Sophisticated films in large and comfortable auditoriums at fair prices" - and this is exactly what makes the theater an **absolute insider tip** in Leipzig's cinema landscape.

Regina Palace

The is located in the east of Reudnitz. You'll feel like you've traveled back in time a few decades, as the cinema exudes the pure nostalgia of years gone by. Equipped with **seven movie theaters**, you can see all the latest films - the "best of cinema", so to speak. Classics and **great cinema successes** are also part of the comprehensive program. There is also the "Pure Original" section, which shows films in their original language, and the "Sunday Movie at 5" with exciting documentaries and arthouse productions.

The great thing about the Regina-Palast: you have free choice of seats!

Passage Cinemas

The can be found in the Jägerhof in Leipzig's city center. They describe themselves as **"arthouse cinemas"**, as they not only show current movies, but also international film productions.

The special feature: There are **five cinemas** named after the former Leipzig cinemas Astoria, Universum, Wintergarten, Filmeck and Cassino. For example, the Astoria-Palast (1912-1943) was located in the Südvorstadt district and was one of the largest cinemas in Leipzig with around 1500 seats.

The Passage cinemas also often host **film premieres**. Here you can meet actors and directors and are served snacks to accompany the movie. There is a particularly varied program for children in the mornings and afternoons during the vacation season. During the summer and winter vacations, **holiday pass holders** also receive reduced admission.

Our highlight: the event . At least two to three times a year, the audience has the chance to view and interpret profound films from a psychoanalytical perspective together with an expert.

Fact is: There is guaranteed to be something for everyone in the Passage cinemas!

The naTo - Cinémathèque Leipzig e.V.

The bright yellow building of the **sociocultural center** definitely catches the eye as you walk along Karl-Liebknecht-Straße in the Südvorstadt district. It is considered the **oldest cultural center** in independent sponsorship in Leipzig.

While the naTo e.V. takes care of the live programme, the film art section is organized by the AG Kommunales Kino - . Cinémathèque Leipzig e.V. was founded in 1991 with the aim of establishing **international film art** in Leipzig. For several years now, the association has shared the building with naTo e.V. as a venue.

You can watch experimental, short and documentary films of various genres here, almost all of which are shown with subtitles and in the original language. So you can also do something for your foreign language skills ;)

Small but cozy: this is the in the **Connewitz** district. With 74 seats and a bar directly in the screening room, the cinema is very compact. In addition to the latest movies, you can watch short films, documentaries and original versions with German subtitles. There are also many special events, such as readings, concerts and the popular Knalltheater, various **themed weeks**, such as the **Queere Filmwoche** as well as cinema days for childrenand the **entire family.**
