On your marks – Get set – Go!

If Mother Holle makes it snow during the winter holidays, there are certainly plenty of ways to enjoy her winter wonderland! No matter how old you are, sledging down a hill will bring out your inner child. Leipzig is full of incredible sledging runs.

On the west side of town we can recommend two "hot spots" in particular. In the Park am Wasserschloss in the Leutzsch district, there are two small hills that offer a fine selection of slopes for sledging fans of all ages. Whether you like your hills steep, gentle or with a ramp, the sledging runs in Leutzsch have it all.If you go a bit further out to Burghausen, you will be able to try Leipzig's longest sledging run.The slope on Bienitz Hill is a full 300 m long with enough bumps to make it an exciting ride.Unfortunately, the hill is fairly overgrown and we recommend that kids take their helmets with them.

If you want to race through the snow down the Fockeberg (wreckage hill near Fockestrasse) in the Südvorstadt district, you will need some experience as the sledging runs there are somewhat trickier and steeper.Luckily, there is also a mini hill where the little ones can have some fun.In northeastern Leipzig, the Mariannenpark in Schönefeld has an excellent sledging run for all age groups. On the southeastern side of the city, the grassy slopes flanking the Monument to the Battle of the Nations are admittedly rather short but the view from there is truly incredible!

For those who would rather not travel so far out of the city, Clara Zetkin Park has two small hills known as the big wart and the little wart. We guarantee it won't take you long to climb to the top again after sledging down. What's more, you are sure to meet some other sledgers there! From the park, it's not far to the city centre where you can warm up after your sledging adventure with a hot drink."Sledging with a view" is also an option near the boat rental at Lake Kulkwitz where you will find a small sledging hill with a terrific view across the water.

We wish all our school kids a great holiday and can guarantee that they won't get bored if they stay in Leipzig!
