DOK Leipzig - The big festival of documentary films
The DOK Leipzig is the largest German and at the same time one of the leading international festivals for artistic documentary and animated film as well as for interactive storytelling. Founded in 1955, it is the oldest documentary film festival in the world, and it celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2017. From the first event animated films have been part of the program, which today extends to cross-media art. This, as well as its strict attention to artistic quality, makes Leipzig unique across the international festival landscape.
The DOK Festival program includes international competitions in the categories:
- long and short documentaries and animated films,
- animated documentaries,
- German documentary films,
- Next Masters.
In addition, there are numerous accompanying programs, such as its regional focus, a rich historical retrospective, the homage to a master and much more.
DOK Leipzig continues to celebrate its geographical and artistic diversity - filmmakers from all over the world started meeting here during the Cold War to exchanged views. By now, thanks to its year-round activities, it has become an international competence centre for documentary and animated film.
