Con spirito - The Leipzig Chamber Music Festival

Con spirito - The Leipzig Chamber Music Festival

11 to 19 September 2021

The first edition of "Con spirito - The Leipzig Chamber Music Festival" promises to be another highlight in the city's events calendar: eight concerts will be held between 11 and 19 September 2021 as part of the chamber music series, staged in European Heritage Sites, the historic homes and places of work of those composers who have played a decisive role in shaping Leipzig's musical tradition. Among them Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Johann Sebastian Bach, Edvard Grieg, Richard Wagner and Clara and Robert Schumann. The artistic director of the festival is Peter Bruns, who will also be taking part in the concerts.

The festival will open with Niels Wilhelm Gade's String Octet op. 17 on 11 September 2021 at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig – at the very place where the Dane himself stepped up to the podium to succeed Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. His Octet will also bring the chamber music festival to a close on 19 September at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Academy of Music and Theatre. Daniel Hope will give the only solo recital in the "Con spirito" festival programme on 15 September in St. Thomas Church. The violinist dedicates his recital to Johann Sebastian Bach and explores the works of some of his contemporaries. Other concert venues include St. Thomas Church, St. Nicholas Church, Old St. Nicholas School, Bach Museum, Mendelssohn House, Schumann House and the C. F. Peters music publishing house with the Grieg Meeting Place.

Participating Artists:

Daniel Hope, Antje Weithaas, Sayako Kusaka, Chouchane Siranossian / Violin
Anna Garzuly / Flute
Pauline Sachse, Tomoko Akasaka / Viola
Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, Eckart Runge, Peter Bruns / Cello
Martin Helmchen, Alexander Melnikov, Jacques Ammon, Caspar Frantz, Annegret Kuttner / Piano
