Experience intangible cultural heritage printing technology
An authentic industrial heritage site, the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig presents around 100 functioning machines and presses for historical casting, typesetting and printing techniques under the theme "Between Technology and Art". By combining a production workshop and a museum, it is possible to experience 500 years of printing history.
As part of the Saxon Route of Industrial Heritage, the museum is one of the 51 most important sites of Saxon industrial culture. It preserves, maintains and communicates the artistic printing techniques of letterpress, gravure and planographic printing listed in the German UNESCO Commission's nationwide list of intangible cultural heritage.
The museum is located at Nonnenstraße 38 in the former industrial district of Plagwitz in a four-winged facility with a 100-year tradition as a printing workshop. The façade of the building facing Nonnenstraße is a rare example of Art Deco in Leipzig's cityscape.
