Where Saxony blooms

The lovely town of Oschatz lies between the Dahlen Heath and the Wermsdorf Forest. The favourable location on the formerly important trade route, the "VIA REGIA", led to the city's foundation around 1200. In the Middle Ages, today's Altmarkt (old market square) developed into a merchant's settlement and formed the starting point of the town's development. The city was once one of the 15 richest in Saxony, thanks in no small part to the hard work of the local cloth makers. Even today, the impressive town houses around Neumarkt and the magnificent Renaissance gable of Oschatz's Town Hall bear witness to this wealth. The oldest treasure, which had been hidden until recently, was discovered through the renovation of the bailiff's house. The bailiff's house in Oschatz was built around 1180 and is considered the oldest stone house of secular construction in Central Germany.

These days, Oschatz has a lot of tourist attractions to offer. During the O-Schatz treasure hunt or during a discovery tour with the "merchant's wife Johanna Sophia Lochmann" visitors are given an amusing introduction to the city. (booking of city tours at the Oschatz Information Centre)

The main attraction is the St. Aegidien Church. Its 75-metre-high towers are visible from afar. The unique stained glass altar in this church is remarkable. Those who are not afraid to climb the 199 steps into the historic tower apartment will be rewarded with a "Schälchen Heeßen" (a cup of coffee) and a fascinating view of the city.

Oschatz bears weight

In the middle of the beautiful historical city centre is the museum of the town and its weighing instruments. This complex, which housed medieval municipal facilities and allows visitors to explore a city wall, a battlement walkway and a guard tower, also offers an exhibition on local history and peasant life and Central Germany's only Museum of Scales It features a special exhibition on the development of weighing equipment, from the very beginning of the scale to state-of-the-art electronic weighing equipment. Temporary special exhibitions enhance a visit to the museum.

Oschatz is fun

The O-Schatz-Park is an adventure park for young and old. There are many attractions to discover and experience in this admission-free family park. Among other things, it houses a zoo, an e-card track, a miniature golf course, activities for little treasure hunters and a labyrinth. The idyllically situated Rosensee is the perfect place to take a break. The skatepool facility is unique in Germany and highly appreciated by young people. In the multi-purpose hall "das O", visitors can marvel at a huge coffee pot collection. It comprises 18,179 coffee pots.

The finest swimming fun is guaranteed all year round in the waterscape with a multitude of slides and various temperature controlled pools, in the Platsch leisure and adventure pool. The generously proportioned sauna area with seven different saunas and a Finnish sauna garden promises pure relaxation. Wellness enthusiasts can really relax and let themselves be pampered, away from the stress of everyday life, with a soothing massage, cosmetic treatments and bath treatments in the hotel's own wellness area. In the summer months, the open-air swimming pool with its slide, diving pool and beach volleyball fields also lures all bathing aficionados.

Oschatz lovable - attractive - charming

The hotel "Gasthaus Zum Schwan" (one of the oldest inns in Saxony), well-run guest houses and private landlords offer guests the perfect place to stay for several days.

Camping and caravan lovers will find a modern camping site with all necessary connections in the middle of the O-Schatz-Park. The bungalow complex, "the European Youth Camp", offers young families, groups of pupils and young people, clubs or other recreation seekers an accommodation option that is simultaneously in the countryside and in the city centre.

Numerous events in the modern Town Hall, the "Thomas-Müntzer-Haus", culturally enrich a visit to Oschatz. The Oschatzer Town Hall can also be used for family celebrations, meetings, conferences, seminars and all kinds of other functions.

The Oschatz Information Centre is the first point of contact for every guest, and our friendly staff will be pleased to welcome you.
