Reconciliation Church

A rare classical-modernist church building.

It is an important example of classical-modernist church architecture. The reinforced concrete structure was built in a conscious modern style. The architect paid special attention to the perpendiculars through corpus edges and wall openings and, in doing so, discovered a modern interpretation of Gothic church buildings.

The church's entrance area is characterised by a cross-bar window made of concrete and coloured glass and is also the buildings most recognisable feature. The interior of the church is decorated with the typical striking clear structure and modest interior of Bauhaus and is complemented by artworks. Neu-Gohlis' landmark today is the white, towering, 39-metre-high bell tower. As a result of the building site conditions, the customary eastern orientation of the choir was dispensed with when the church was built. The church therefore faces south-north. The Reconciliation Church is very close to the similarly designed Krochsiedlung.
