Saxon Wind Philharmonic

cultural orchestra with purely symphonic wind ensemble

It is a magical moment when the air flows through 30 woodwind and brass instruments and a rich, brilliant sound unfolds. This can be experienced at the Saxon Wind Philharmonic with its special symphonic wind ensemble, which is unique in the German orchestra landscape. From classical, jazz or film music to original compositions, the Saxon Wind Philharmonic inspires its audience with fresh programs. The various chamber music ensembles complement the diversity of the orchestra. Since 2021, Austrian-born Peter Sommerer has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Saxon Wind Philharmonic and, with his refreshing style, sets new accents in the orchestra's musical work.

MISKUS

Diverse cultural festival in Saxony

The Association for the Promotion of Central Saxon Cultural Summer – MISKUS for short – has been presenting the most diverse festival in Saxony every summer since 1994. It brings more than 40 cultural events to the most beautiful places in the Leipzig region and uses the unique ambience of old walls, palaces and castles, monasteries and churches, ruins, parks and the rural atmosphere for original programs and unusual dramaturgies. The festival motto "ALWAYS NEW" is seen as the top priority. By reworking historic events, history can be experienced in a wide variety of ways. In addition to almost authentic costumes, which are made in the in-house tailor shop, this also includes the organization of historically-looking markets from various eras. The festival offers a wide range of opportunities for active participation - whether on or off the stage.
