Somewhat smaller but also excellent venues to see animals are the O-Schatz Park in Oschatz and the Dornreichenbach animal enclosure in Lossatal. At this last animal park, you will even get to see rare breeds such as Costa Rica squirrels and Jacob sheep as well as the largest meerkat enclosure in Saxony. In some of the zoological areas, you are allowed to stroke and feed the animals.
When summer calls, Leipzig locals are drawn to the lakes. The New Lake District is one of the largest contiguous lake areas in Europe and boasts fantastic water quality as well as countless activities both in and by the water.
