282nd Citizens' Concert | Sound of Longing
Sound of longing
Johannes Brahms began his chamber music career with string quartets, but he later destroyed these early works as evidence of his lack of maturity. The first pieces of pure string chamber music that he published were his two string sextets, Op. 18 and Op. 36. Although publishers were initially skeptical, the sextets became a great success. Along with the German Requiem, they were what helped the young Brahms achieve his breakthrough.
These two string sextets are our spring greeting for this year.
Join us on a journey along the Rhine with Johannes Brahms, experiencing the exhilarating feeling of a holiday atmosphere.
