Arts and Culture

Jürgen Wenzel (1950-2023) began an apprenticeship as a porcelain painter in Meissen in 1967 and studied painting and graphic arts at the HfBK in Dresden from 1970-75. From 1980 onwards, he worked as a freelance painter and founded the artist group Edition B53 together with B. Hahn, A.P. Kammerer, and A. Küchler. His work in the Dresden slaughterhouses earned him the nickname "Slaughterhouse Painter." In 2023, the Leonhardi Museum Dresden dedicated an extensive exhibition to him. His works have been shown in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad and are in public and private collections.

Axel Wunsch (born 1941) learned the trade of dyer and attended various drawing circles at a very early age, including those of Willy Wittig. From 1963 to 68, he studied at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts under W. Mattheuer. Study trips took him to numerous European countries. In 1969, he held his first exhibition with Volker Stelzmann in Chemnitz, followed by exhibitions in many East German galleries and museums from 1970 onward. His line-based work was later joined by sculpture.
