Johann Sebastian Bach: Advent and Christmas Cantatas

classical concert

Of Johann Sebastian Bach's large number of cantatas, 249 works are still preserved today. Six of them make up the Christmas Oratorio, which can be heard dozens of times every year in December, especially in Leipzig. Other Bach cantatas for Advent and Christmas are often overshadowed by the Christmas Oratorio - unjustly, says University Music Director David Timm. To mark the festive season, the Leipzig University Choir therefore presents alternately well-known and lesser-known cantatas by the famous Thomaskantor.
