Known in the Leipzig area as "the house with the spider," the Leipzig Natural History Museum is dedicating its new temporary exhibition to its own history. With the start of construction of the New Natural History Museum at Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz, the museum also begins its farewell to Lortzingstraße, its current location. Many generations of museum employees have shaped the building over time, transforming it into a place of education, identification, and a favorite place for the city's community.
In a final major farewell exhibition, the museum team will showcase some of their favorite objects and offer interactive insights into their collections and the work of the various departments. At the same time, we'll look back on 100 years of museum work in the "House with the Spider."
Until the new building on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz opens, the exhibition will be constantly evolving—an experiment that will feature new stories, objects, and perspectives from the museum's various departments every six months. First, the zoological preparation team will be given a stage, initiating the four-year countdown to the opening of the New Natural History Museum. The first chapter begins on June 6, 2025.
