World of Threads: Tapestries of Modernism - Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig

exhibition
The special exhibition is dedicated to one of humanity’s oldest cultural techniques.

The exhibition "World of Threads" at the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig showcases over 50 impressive tapestries and provides a fascinating overview of the development of tapestry art. From traditional Baroque wall hangings to contemporary works based on designs by artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Max Ernst, and Sonia Delaunay, a multifaceted dialogue unfolds between art and craft.

An interactive educational program invites visitors to explore the complex techniques and cultural significance of this often underestimated art form. The exhibition thus bridges the gap between tradition and modernity—and highlights how relevant textile art remains today. It will be on display from December 11, 2025, to April 12, 2026.

The permanent exhibition of the MdbK includes over 4.600 paintings, 1.800 sculptures, medals and plaques, over 5.000 photographs and over 70.000 works on paper from seven centuries.
