The International Saxon Singers' Academy Torgau, Schloss Hartenfels is aimed at singing students at German and international universities, young singers from abroad who are aiming to study at a university in Germany, as well as young singers who are already working as singers.
The academy thrives on the rich musical traditions of the city of Torgau. The focus is on German song, German-language oratorio and German opera – from its beginnings to contemporary music. This focus on the German musical tradition makes the academy a unique cultural meeting place.
Torgau is a Renaissance town of great musical historical significance. Greats such as Martin Luther and Johann Walter once worked here. In 1627, the magnificent Hartenfels Castle the opera “Dafne” by Heinrich Schütz was premiered. This work is considered in the music world to be the first German opera and is highly valued in music encyclopedias worldwide.
