Leipzig has more than 20 community gardens. Here, people cultivate a piece of land together, rather than working individually in a secluded plot. This bike tour introduces the concept and significance of these urban gardens and visits a number of projects. After a 30-minute introduction to the temporary exhibition "Over the Fence – Gardens and People" at the Leipzig Forum for Contemporary History, the tour continues by bike to the H17 municipal garden in Lindenau, the neighborhood gardens in Leutzsch, and the Hildegarten and orchard at the Plagwitzer Bürgerbahnhof. Here, participants share their experiences and the challenges of working together in urban green spaces.
The tour takes approximately five hours and is 5 kilometers long. You can bring your own picnic, but there are also refreshment stops along the way. The tour leader is Michael Berninger, education officer at the Leipzig Green e.V. urban and surrounding landscape conservation association.
