They are perhaps the most influential indie rock band of our time: Almost 20 years ago, The Kooks shook up the British music scene – and their impact hasn't diminished to this day. It all began in the early 2000s in picturesque Brighton. The founding members, including singer Luke Pritchard and guitarist Hugh Harris, met while studying music and wrote more than 100 songs within just a few months. Inspired by a David Bowie song, they named themselves The Kooks: the eccentrics, the madmen.
And they certainly lived up to their name. After just three months as a band, they landed their first record deal with Virgin Records. Their debut album, "Inside In / Inside Out," was released in 2006 and became a surprise hit, earning them five-times platinum status and the MTV Award for Best British Act. Two years later came "Konk," which propelled The Kooks to the top of the UK charts and cemented their place as a major force in the indie scene. For their third album, "Junk Of The Heart" (2011), the band retreated to a farm to escape the hustle and bustle of success, before embarking on an experiment with "Listen" (2014), incorporating soul, gospel, and folk influences. In 2018, the band returned to their indie roots with "Let's Go Sunshine." Eventually, Luke Pritchard moved to Berlin, where he wrote the songs for "10 Tracks To Echo In The Dark," released in 2022, during the pandemic. A more mature album, it blends classic Kooks elements with themes such as lost love, all-night parties, and his new role as a father. Their seventh studio album, "Never/Know," followed in the spring of 2025.
At heart, The Kooks have always been a live band – whether playing their first gigs in Brighton's small bars, headlining festivals, or supporting legends like the Rolling Stones. Their timeless sound, catchy hits, and especially the unique chemistry between Pritchard and Harris make their concerts some of the best in the entire indie scene. And it's precisely this magic they'll be bringing back to Germany in February 2026: fans can look forward to six concerts by The Kooks!
