Directed by Maryam Touzani · Original version with German subtitles
With: Lubna Azabal, Nisrin Erradi

The indirect light of Casablanca's alleyways falls into an apartment with a small bakery attached. Abla lives there with her eight-year-old daughter, Warda. When the heavily pregnant Samia knocks on her door one day and asks for work, Abla initially turns her away. But Warda immediately takes to the stranger – and eventually manages to soften her mother's heart as well. As Samia proves to be a skilled baker, a tender bond of friendship grows between the two women. With the birth of Samia's child drawing ever nearer, the question arises of what future awaits them, for freedom and unfreedom are not decided here in the private sphere, but rather there, one must cope with the circumstances. Maryam Touzani tells a story from contemporary Casablanca, about the profound solidarity of two women and the sensual art of baking. We haven't seen such a rich aesthetic and such a loving portrayal of the encounter between unyielding hardships and warmth and wit in a film for a long time. Photos: © Grandfilm
