This concert brings together diverse approaches to compositions for wind ensembles, resulting in an ambitious sonic experience. Franz Danzi's primary intention was to establish a fondness for the genre among music lovers of his time. Beethoven's Septet (as a chamber music masterpiece), despite its status as an occasional composition, unintentionally influenced the style of subsequent generations. And in Maurice Ravel's autobiographical sketch, we find the note that the homage to Tombeau is directed "less to Couperin alone than to 18th-century French music."
