Museum FORUM 1813 – Museum of the Battle of Leipzig
Half a million soldiers from across Europe fought for the political future of the continent in one of the most horrific mass battles of the 19th century. Weapons, uniforms, equipment, photographs, and personal mementos bring this tragic wartime era vividly to life. Among the highlights are personal belongings of Marshal Poniatowski, who drowned near Leipzig.
The highlight of the exhibition is a 15-square-meter diorama with over 3000 fully sculpted figures. Reconstructed as accurately as possible based on contemporary descriptions, it depicts a village from the Leipzig area as it might have appeared to the viewer on October 18, 1813, during the attack by Russian-Prussian troops.
