Opening of the Leipzig Music Arch
The Leipzig Music Trail creates a second permanently marked discovery tour of Leipzig, the city of music, complementing the existing Leipzig Music Trail. The route leads through the Gründerzeit (late 19th-century) urban expansion areas west of the city center and immerses visitors in the musical world of the Romantic, Late Romantic, and Modern periods of the 19th and 20th centuries. Because Jewish people were permitted to resettle in Leipzig during this time after their expulsion in the late Middle Ages, music and authentic sites where Jewish people were active are the central focus of the Leipzig Music Trail. These include synagogues as well as the residences and monuments of Jewish composers such as Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Gustav Mahler, and Erwin Schulhoff. At each stop, musical examples and short audio pieces are provided, bringing the history of German-Jewish coexistence to life.
There will be a promenade concert between stations 14 to 19 of the Leipzig Music Trail and a closing event at Richard Wagner Square.
