Roxana Rios. Ode to Eris

exhibition
Arts and Culture

In a series commissioned by the Museum of Fine Arts Berlin (MdbK), Roxana Rios (born 1994 in Hanover) engages with selected works from the permanent exhibition through photographic-performative reinterpretations. Rios' artistic practice is characterized by a critical examination of historically developed narratives and, in particular, the connections between image and knowledge production—ultimately, the question of how certain visual patterns in portraiture, such as gender stereotypes, have been perpetuated and entrenched to this day. For Roxana Rios, the body is a "construct,
Material and representative within social (dis)orders."
Roxana Rios studied photography with Heidi Specker at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig (HGB) and at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg with Juergen Teller and Katja Eydel. She then studied performance arts with Isabel Lewis at the HGB. Roxana Rios lives and works in Leipzig.
The Ode to Eris series of works is presented in the form of three large-format banners on the facade of the MdbK as well as several photographic interventions in the permanent exhibition.
To mark the project, a signed and numbered edition featuring all the motifs from the series, in a 40 × 30 cm format, will be released in a limited edition (+ 1 artist's proof) in a handcrafted slipcase. The edition is available at the MdbK.
