Dübener Heide Nature Park

Wegweiser am Wanderweg in der Dübener Heide - Aktiv in der Region Leipzig

Nature Park Düben Heath invites you to enjoy numerous excursion destinations for , and horse riding. The nature park was founded in 1992. Covering around 75,000 hectares, the area stretches across the river landscapes of the Mulde and Elbe through the two federal states of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt and is considered the largest continuous mixed woodland area in Central Germany.

In addition to its rich fauna and almost untouched flora, Nature Park Düben Heath has many other natural beauties to offer: marvel at the Rote Ufer, which borders the Bad Düben district of Alaunwerk. This steep bank, up to 15 metres high, owes its name to deposits of leached alum earth that was mined here from the 16th to the 19th century. The Gesundbrunnen, located in the heart of the high forest, is also a popular hiking destination for young and old alike. The water from this spring is said to have healing properties.

The **Dahlen Heath** and the **Wermsdorf Forest** are two of Saxony's most impressive protected landscapes. Located in the north-western part of the Free State, between the Elbe and Mulde rivers, extensive forests, broad, gently rolling to flat countryside, as well as numerous ponds and lakes with diverse flora and fauna are waiting to be explored. The deciduous and coniferous forests, expansive meadows and fertile fields offer cyclists and hikers, water sports enthusiasts as well as riders and horse-drawn carriage fans excellent opportunities for **rest and relaxation**.

Thanks to the large populations of wild boar, fallow deer and red deer, both the Dahlen Heath and the Wermsdorf Forest were already popular hunting grounds at the beginning of the 16th century. Even Augustus the Strong and the Saxon court knew how to appreciate this. Hunters and visitors are still delighted today when the "Halali" of the hunting horns sounds each autumn for the St Hubert's Hunt. Game meat is one of the culinary specialities of this travel region, alongside local fish.
