Welcome to the Mulde river!

The Mulde river is a river with many different sides and two headwaters that have shaped the surrounding area since the Middle Ages.

The **Zwickauer Mulde** rises in Schöneck in the Vogtland region and flows for around 160 kilometres until it meets the 120-kilometre-long **Freiberger Mulde**. From Sermuth, the two river branches together form the **Vereinigte Mulde**, which then flows into the Elbe near Dessau-Roßlau after another 120 kilometres.

The wide riverbed is **ideal for canoe trips**, which are great fun for children as well as adults on the varied routes. The different stages offer an impressive variety.

Out and about on the Elbe
-------------------------

Attention recreational captains

The Elbe covers a full 1,091 kilometers from its source in the Czech Giant Mountains to its mouth in the North Sea. The so-called Middle Elbe, a meandering lowland river, shapes the northeastern area of the Leipzig Region.

From the **thousand-year-old Roland town of Belgern**, water hikers can paddle all the way to the Renaissance town of Torgau. **Torgau** is also home to a **public rest area for water hikers** for canoes, rowing boats, and motorboats, with a slipway and direct access to the city center. Between Torgau and Dommitzsch, the northernmost town in Saxony, **many sandy groynes** invite you to swim and linger.

    - **Use landing & launch points:** Use designated and marked areas – avoid sensitive riverbank zones – do not enter habitats of birds, small animals and plants.
    - **Protect animals & plants:** Keep a sufficient distance from the bank in near-natural sections of waterways – avoid disturbing wildlife and plant life – observe seasonal periods when navigating the Mulde – only navigate the Mulde between Eilenburg and Bad Düben from 15 July to 31 October.
