Water Sports in Leipzig and the Region

Due to an extensive bridge construction project on the railway overpass between the Markkleeberg sewage treatment plant and the Lauer forest lake, the passage through the Floßgraben is restricted until further notice. In the immediate area of ​​the bridge construction (i.e. up to 10 m north and 30 m south of the bridge), public use - and thus in particular the use of kayaks and other purely muscle-powered vehicles - is prohibited for safety reasons. until April 25, 2025 limited to weekends and public holidays. This means that the Floßgraben is only open to traffic on weekends and public holidays. On weekdays, the Floßgraben is open to traffic on both sides up to the bridge structure, but it is not possible to drive through it.

Specifically, the periods were set as follows, taking into account construction activity:

During periods without construction work, ie from Friday 20:00 p.m. to Monday 07:00 a.m., public use is maintained. For public holidays, public use is permitted from 20:00 p.m. on the day before the holiday until 07:00 a.m. on the day after the holiday.

In addition, a supporting structure is installed on the bridge structure during the winter months. This limits the clearance height depending on the water level, although a clearance height of approx. 1,50 m should be guaranteed.

Since Saturday, April 1st, the Connewitz and Cospuden locks can be used for water hiking again. In April, the locks are open from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m., from May to September from 10 a.m. to 20 p.m. and in October from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. During operating hours, employees of the Leipzig/Engelsdorf municipal company provide information and support to lock users directly on site.

Issue conditions:

The permits (day, week or year tickets) are only valid for one body of water. Only week and year tickets may be sold for association-contracted waters. The issuing of day tickets is not permitted for fishing leased waters.

You are only allowed to fish in Saxony if you have a valid fishing license and a permit for the water you want to fish in. The minimum sizes and catch limits are uniformly regulated for the whole of Saxony in the water regulations of the Saxon Anglers' Association and are also printed on the permit.

Children and young people in Saxony can get a youth fishing license from the age of 9. However, they can only fish with this license if they are accompanied by an adult fishing license holder, unless the young person has been a member of a fishing club for at least a year. Youth fishing license holders also need a valid permit.

People whose main place of residence is outside the area covered by the Basic Law can be issued a guest fishing license without having to take a fishing test. This is intended to enable foreign holidaymakers to fish.
