The inner courtyard of Leipzig University extends the elongated, spatial centre of the campus area. The so-called Leibniz Forum was named after Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, one of the University's best-known alumni. The monument by the sculptor Ernst Julius Hähnel forms an interesting contrast to the ultra-modern rear of the Paulinum and is a memorial to the German philosopher.

The inner courtyard is surrounded by the New Augusteum and Paulinum as well as the institute, seminar and lecture hall building. Since 2009, the new building of Leipzig University also has its own row of shops. The courtyard is only partially/occasionally accessible.
