At the gates of Leipzig
The city of Brandis belongs to the district of Leipzig and is situated between Leipzig, Wurzen and Grimma embedded in a wonderful landscape in the middle of the Mulde valley. At the gates of Leipzig you can explore the districts on supraregional cycle routes. They lead through the fantastic landscape, past quarries, the climbing forest, the Brandis town church, over the Kohlenberg or to Beucha to the "village of stones" with the mountain church, which is visible from afar and sits on a porphyry pedestal above the church quarry, now filled with water. Among other things, the granite porphyry used for the construction of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig comes from this quarry - a quarry with history, a village with stories.
For fans of cool water there are swimming possibilities at Lake Albrechtshain. In addition to an area filled with sand especially for that beach feeling, in summer you can relax on sunbathing lawns with or without shady spots. There is also the Leipzig climbing forest and a boat rental on the lake.
With lots of greenery, forests, lakes, quarries, cycle paths and hiking trails, the city and its surroundings offer a lot of variety. Connected to Leipziger Neuseenland (Leipzig New Lake District), existing tourist opportunities are being expanded and new ones developed.
Brandis is the ideal starting point for anyone who decides to get to know the Mulde Valley and Leipzig's New Lake District beyond its borders. Within an hour you can get from Halle to Dresden, and from Chemnitz to Wittenberg.
Many of the approximately 60 sports and cultural clubs organise or participate in regular events. The year traditionally begins with the New Year meeting with fireworks on the market. On 30 April, the maypole is put on the market. Other highlights of the year include the Hoffest vom Bulldoghof Remler, the Stadtmusikfest, the Sachsenpokal der Feuerwehr, the musical Hoffest in the Polenzer Verein Einigkeit 4, the Oldtimer Treffen, the Beucha Triathlon Day at Lake Albrechtshain, the Christmas market in Beucha and the Brandis Wichtelmarkt.
