Mendelssohn House Leipzig LeipzigCard RegioCard
World's only Mendelssohn Museum
The Mendelssohn House is the only remaining residence of the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, who died in Leipzig in 1847. Today it is used as a music salon and is also the only Mendelssohn museum in the world.
Mendelssohn's study and the salon, in which Wagner, Schumann and Berlioz also operated, were restored to their original state and house many treasures. Just like during Mendelssohn's lifetime, you can also enjoy concert matinees in the music salon today.
The museum in the Mendelssohn House offers many different activities for children. These include "Mendelssohn's World for Children" on every first Sunday of the month, several small events in the Mendelssohn House's Carriage house during the summer holidays and some educational activities for kindergarten groups and school classes.
