Groitzsch Museum Tower
Over 500 years of history
The town tower in Groitzsch is all that is left of the old Romanesque St. Aegidius church. A fire in 1513 completely destroyed everything except the tower. The 23-metre-high tower was not repaired until 1714. It then continued to serve as an armory, a tower, prison, and shelter. From 1993 to 1995, it was completely renovated and since then has housed a local history exhibition by the Groitzsch Museum. You can climb over 60 steps to the top of the tower and enjoy the view over the town and the Elsteraue.
