Opera, Leipzig Ballet and "Musikalische Komödie (MuKo)" (musical performances)
Leipzig Opera - consisting of opera, musical comedy and Leipzig ballet - is the third oldest bourgeois music theatre stage in Europe. The outstanding international reputation is shaped by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, important soloists, an award-winning choir and the Leipzig Ballet.
The opera was opened in 1693, making it the second oldest German music stage after Hamburg. The Leipzig Music Trail takes you right past the Opera House and the Leipzig Jazz Days are also an annual guest here. The musicals and operettas included in the programme are performed in the historic Dreilinden House (Musical Comedy).
