Russian Memorial Church
In 1910, the Russian tsarist empire also commemorated the great part Alexander I's troops had in the victory at Leipzig in 1813. Under the honorary presidency of Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich, a construction committee began its planning work.
The City of Leipzig provided the property for a church building. The renowned sacral architect Pokrowski, whose preliminary work was completed and implemented by the Leipzig architects Weidenbach and Tschammer, led the project. After the laying of the foundation stone on 28 December 1912, the imposing building was consecrated as St. Alexi Memorial Church on 17 October 1913 and since then has commemorated the 22,000 Russian soldiers who died in the Battle of Nations.
