The small town on the edge of the Düben Heath looks back on a history spanning over a thousand years.
The large district town of Eilenburg is located in the Free State of Saxony, belongs to the district of Nordsachsen and is therefore in the Leipzig/Halle metropolitan region.

The small town with its six districts, located on the edge of the Düben Heath and only 25 km from the city of Leipzig, looks back on a history spanning over 1050 years and can rightly call itself one of the cradles of Saxony. The town of Eilenburg is a paradise for nature lovers, hikers and cyclists and is also an ideal starting point for all kinds of exploration tours.

You can walk along historical paths in the city museum, which is located in the most historic town house in the city, the "Zum Roten Hirsch" inn. It is also worth taking a guided tour through Eilenburg's unique underworld, a widespread cellar system in the Eilenburg mountain that began in the Middle Ages. Also worth seeing are the legendary castle hill (Heinzelmännchen legend) with a historical circular path, the "Hundertstüfchen", the Sorbenturm - one of the oldest brick buildings in Saxony and the nameless wall tower in the north of the complex. From here you have a wonderful view over the Leipzig lowlands and the Dübener Heide.

Do you want to cycle along the Mulde cycle path that leads through Eilenburg? Then stop at the Bobritzer Damm - an impressive dam - and relax in the middle of the charming floodplain landscape. Or use the "Eilenburger Schleife" cycle circuit, which leads directly from the Mulde cycle path from the Eilenburg East district into the city center and up the mountain, where all of Eilenburg's sights can be seen at a glance. You can also take a boat along the Mühlgraben (a tributary of the Mulde) on the water to marvel at the architecture and building culture of Eilenburg's city center as well as the natural landscape. The fourteen "Camera Historica" viewing columns in the city area and the whisper and ball park in the heart of Eilenburg invite you to take a stroll. The animal park, St. Mary's mountain church with the Geißler organ and St. Nicholas' Church with a unique cross vault are also worth a visit.

For sports enthusiasts, there is a handicapped-accessible swimming pool with sauna, skittle alley and fitness center. Whether it's a library, a community center with many high-profile events, an observatory or a gallery cafe with a barn theater - there is also a lot on offer for education and culture. The "Kiesgrube" leisure and recreation center offers a variety of water sports in addition to camping.

Attractive accommodation options can be found in the guest houses and hotels in the city and the region. The two existing train stations (Eilenburg Bahnhof and Eilenburg Ost) not only provide tourists and cyclists with excellent connections to the hiking and cycling trails, but pilgrims can also benefit from this rail connection. The latter also have the opportunity to explore the Luther Trail that runs through the city and visit Luther's places of work in Eilenburg. Day tourists can also reach Eilenburg quickly and easily using the direct connection to the cities of Leipzig (25 minutes away), Torgau (20 minutes away), Cottbus (80 minutes away) or Halle (40 minutes away) and be inspired by the small town's diverse offerings.
