Castle
A gem of classical and neo-Gothic architecture
Wolkenburg Castle is somewhat hidden in a half-wild park above the valley of the Zwickauer Mulde. The imposing complex is reminiscent of its beginnings as a medieval castle. But inside the castle is a gem of classicist and neo-Gothic architecture with a ballroom, state rooms and library, which was built under Detlev Carl Graf von Einsiedel between 1760 and 1810. Numerous cast iron figures that populate the castle and park also date from this period. Exhibition cabinets are dedicated to Maier Fritz von Uhde, who was born here in 1848, and the von Einsiedel family. The park and the adjacent Mulde valley invite you to stroll, hike and linger.
