Baroque Palace DelitzschOnce built as a medieval moated castle, the building served as a travel residence for Saxon rulers and to house the state's administrative offices.
The first remodeling gave the palace its Renaissance style. After the division of Saxony and the takeover of the principality of Saxe-Merseburg, the palace was chosen as a widow's residence for duchesses. The renewed remodeling gives the ensemble its French character. From 1860, the residence was used as a women's prison for several years until the city of Delitzsch bought the palace and the museum moved in. The baroque palace now houses the city museum, the tourist information office, a sound vault, the registry office and the district music school.
The 50-meter-high observation tower also offers excellent views. From the highest floor of the tower, there is a wonderful view of the historic city center and the surrounding area. On a clear day, you can see Leipzig and the Petersberg near Halle.
Museum in the Baroque Palace of DelitzschHere, the princely, magnificently furnished living quarters of the dowager duchess of Saxe-Merseburg and the everyday life of the servants in the Delitzsch ladies' palace are presented. Information is also available on the history of the palace and the town. The special exhibitions are devoted to political and cultural history topics.
Strolling in the Baroque gardenThe pleasure garden, originally laid out in the French style in 1692 and 1693, now has a “parterre de broderie” again, which is reminiscent of embroidery with its ornaments filled with broken bricks. The fan-shaped avenues of spherical maples provide welcome shade in the summer.
dream wedding in the castleRomantics can say "I do" in the baroque palace. The wedding room is available for civil ceremonies in a special setting, and the baroque garden or the ducal audience hall are excellent photo backdrops for original wedding photos. Those who stroke the friendly Sterntaler figurine on the shoulder right at the palace entrance are said to be lucky.
