The family-run Bennewitz Dairy Farm keeps 730 dairy cows that graze in the Torgau countryside and offers a range of natural, local products. Animal welfare is a priority and the cows are kept according to environmentally friendly agricultural practices. Their milk is minimally processed into fresh milk, buttermilk, whey and curd cheese, thus ensuring that the vital vitamins, calcium and flavour it contains are preserved. The cheese is also made without preservatives, colourings or flavour enhancers. Furthermore, the dairy uses traditional artisan methods to produce nutritious cultured butter. In addition to the farm shop, the products are sold at the Leipzig weekly market in front of the Old Town Hall and at weekly markets throughout the Torgau area.
The farm features viewing windows where visitors can watch how the dairy products are made and see the cheese-ripening room. In the summer, guests are welcome to take a break in the seating areas and enjoy a coffee or some ice cream.
