The 20-metre-high observation tower was built on the 148.5-metre-high Wachtelberg in the 'Wachtelberg- Mühlbachtal' nature conservation area.

The 20-metre-high observation tower built from 1908, on the 148.5-metre-high Wachtelberg in the “Wachtelberg- Mühlbachtal” nature conservation area, and inaugurated on the 1st April 1909. On clear days, it offers a panoramic view of up to 40 kilometres from the observation platform over the beautiful "Muldental" (Mulde valley). Inside the tower, visitors are privy to an exhibition on its 100-year history and on the flora pertaining to the nature conservation area, 'Mittlere Mulde'. Guided tours through the nature conservation area and visits to the exhibition outside of the tower's opening hours are possible by arrangement with the nature conservation officer.
