BMW Plant Leipzig

Short facts

With the BMW Group's 229-hectare production site, Leipzig is home to one of the most modern and sustainable automotive factories in the world.

In August 2001, the 3-year construction phase of the BMW plant began, with a total investment of 1.2 billion Euros. Since March 2005, several hundred vehicles have been produced here every day - in the first ten years more than two million cars left the production line. The spectacular and award-winning architecture of the central building, designed by Zaha Hadid, is a visual highlight. It was awarded the German Architecture Prize in 2005 and functions as the communicative centre of the facility.

To ensure that employees always have their product in view, the car bodies are transported between the individual production areas via the office workstations. The BMW plant is also a popular excursion destination: One of the factory tours gives you the opportunity to have a closer look at vehicle production, from body welding and painting to individual vehicle equipment.
