Boot Museum and Wagler Gallery
==============================

- Museum/art collection

DEU/Saxony/ LeisnigWith a shaft height of 4.90 m and a sole length of 2.20 m, the Leisnig giant boot holds the Guinness record as the world's largest boot. It was made using 140 kg of sole leather from 10 cowhides and the spur wheel alone, which is studded with 16 spikes, has a diameter of 55 cm. For the 950th anniversary celebrations of the town of Leisnig on June 21, 1996, the master shoemakers Gerhard Berthold and Rolf Neidhardt presented the even larger Leisnig giant boot with the above-mentioned dimensions to the surprise of the people of Leisnig and the horror of the people of Döbeln. They had made it in complete secrecy in their workshop, where they had broken through the ceiling to the upper floor especially for this purpose. Its size earned it an entry in the Guinness Book of Records in 1997 as the largest top boot in the world. The Leisnig Boot Museum was inaugurated at the castle and old town festival in 2006. The Haus am Burglehn, in the area of the former outer bailey of Mildenstein Castle, with its 1000 years of history, offers the Leisnig giant boot an ideal home.As the former home of the painter Karl Wagler, it also houses the Wagler Gallery.

World's largest top boot, memorial to the shoemakers' guild in Leisnig, home of the regionally famous painter Karl Wagler

The traditions of the craft and in particular those of the shoemakers' guild have been very important in the town of Leisnig for hundreds of years. In honor of this tradition, the two master shoemakers Rolf Neidhardt and Gerhard Berthold made the world's largest leather boot, the so-called "Leisnig Giant Boot", in 1996. With this masterpiece of craftsmanship, they created a monument to the shoemakers' guild in Leisnig. The boot, which is almost 5 meters high, is housed in Burglehn no. 9.

As this house was home to the regionally renowned painter Karl Wagler, the entire Wagler Foundation was moved from the rooms of the neighboring Mildenstein Castle to his home.
