Buntgarnwerke

The distinctive Buntgarnwerke building was built between 1887 and 1895 according to plans by the architects Ottomar Jummel and Pfeiffer & Händel. The reason for the construction was the increasing importance of trade in Leipzig. The first impression of the listed building complex conveys the splendor and prestige of what was then an industrial palace.

The clinker brick facade is particularly recognizable, with its extremely attractive red brick architecture and decorative light natural stone elements. The two-story bridge made of glass and iron that connects the buildings on both sides of the White Elster is also distinctive. Today, the Buntgarnwerke on the banks of the White Elster house numerous lofts and furnished apartments.
