City-Tunnel Leipzig

Short facts

The Leipzig City Tunnel represents a major railway project to redesign the local rail passenger traffic at the Leipzig railway junction.

The Leipzig City Tunnel is the hub of the Central German S-Bahn network: it directly connects the main railway station with the Bayerischer Bahnhof. The City Tunnel makes a speedy north-south connection through Leipzig possible. The newly built tunnel stations are 17 to 22 metres below ground. This makes the City Tunnel Leipzig regional rail traffic faster, more efficient and more comfortable Since 15 December 2013, six new S-Bahn lines have been connecting the Central German economic region around Halle and Leipzig with the surrounding area faster and more efficiently. The City Tunnel optimally connects the airport, the trade fair centre and the city centre with the surrounding areas like Halle, Bitterfeld, Altenburg, Wurzen and Eilenburg all the way to Hoyerswerda, Oschatz and Zwickau.
