Colditz Castle

Short facts

In the heart of Saxony, Colditz Castle houses the escape museum, which documents almost 300 escape attempts.

Colditz Castle is located in the heart of Saxony on the banks of the Zwickauer Mulde. The castle building, with its white gables, was an important internment camp for high-ranking officers of the Western Allies during the Second World War. British, Dutch and French military personnel were mainly incarcerated in "Oflag (officer's camp) IV C". The escape museum is dedicated to the approximately 300 documented escape attempts, some of which were incredibly creative. Guests can even enjoy the royal treatment at the Europa Youth Hostel in the castle.
