"Courage and Powerlessness" tells the story of Nazi military justice during the Second World War and the Torgau military prisons. The focus is on those persecuted, including deserters and other members of the resistance against the Nazi regime.

It also deals with the Soviet special camps in Torgau after 1945, and finally with political prisoners during the SED dictatorship. These included young people in the Torgau youth prison.
