Dahlen Castle

Dahlen Castle with castle park and pond

Old manor house in baroque style, castle park with the oldest tulip tree in Saxony

In 1744/51, Imperial Count Heinrich von Bünau had the baroque castle and the farm buildings built. From 1852 to 1945 it was owned by the Sahrer v. Sahr family. After being expropriated by the GDR, it was used as a children's holiday camp and police school, among other things. On March 20 1973 the Dahlen Castle burned down as a result of an old defective stovepipe connection. The ruins were supposed to be demolished in 1989.

1990/94 saw the start of the first clearing work and the installation of stretched ceramic ceilings with temporary cardboard roofing. From 2005 to 2008 the castle was used by a Schloss GbR, which began security and clean-up work and organized commercial events. Since 2009 the Schloss- und Parkverein Dahlen e.V. has been striving to save Dahlen Castle from decay.
