Dölitz gatehouse with tin figure museum

Museum/art collection
The Torhaus Dölitz is a site of the Battle of the Nations and is one of the largest tin figure museums in Germany
The Torhaus is an architectural gem that is over 300 years old and is one of the few remaining baroque buildings in Leipzig.

The Tin Figure Museum in the Torhaus Dölitz is one of the largest museums of its kind in Europe. On three floors, artistically designed individual figures and tin figure dioramas  "History in miniature". In total, over 100,000 pewter figures are waiting to be discovered.

The exhibition focuses on the Napoleonic era with the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. The highlight of the gatehouse is the approx. 25 m² large historical diorama of the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig. It also shows how the cityscape of Leipzig has changed over the centuries! The diverse history of Dölitz - a place that Goethe loved to visit during his time as a student in Leipzig - is waiting to be discovered! There are also numerous dioramas on antiquity (e.g. Babylon), the Middle Ages and the events of the 18th century to marvel at. An exhibition room focuses on the history and production of pewter figures. It shows everything worth knowing about the pewter figure - from the idea and drawing, to engraving, casting, painting and diorama construction.
Constantly changing special exhibitions and a museum store, where you can buy all kinds of things related to pewter figures, the Battle of the Nations and Napoleon as well as Leipzig souvenirs, round off the overall picture of the exhibition.
